Keeping the weights of parameters almost unchanged from previous year's rankings, here we present our expanded set of rankings - overall and streamwise.
Our parameters include :
1. Student Quality - judged by IITJEE ranks, AIEEE ranks and BITSAT scores
2. Faculty - judged by experience(research, teaching or industry) and whether they have Ph.Ds or not
3. Infrastructure - labs, classrooms, library, hostels, extra-curricular facilities, LAN connectivity, etc.
4. Placements - by average of highest package per student
5. Research activity - judged by number of research papers published and number of patents
6. Background diversity - colleges with all-India student profile got better scores than state-level colleges
7. Negatives - points were deducted from a college's previously accumulated scores for activities which undermined quality of education, most prominently "violent campus politics" and "ragging"
The only criterion for consideration was that at least one batch must have passed out, i.e., institute must be at least 4 years old.

ReplyDeleteI do not agree with the concept of overall rankings but I have to admit that this is the best set of overall rankings I have ever seen, much better than the ridiculous stuff we get to see in magazines.
ReplyDeleteStreamwise rankings appear quite useful and okay.
However I feel that as far as mechanical engg is concerned, NIT Durgapur is as good as NIT Trichy, if not better. While mechanical @ NIT trichy has somewhat better placements (which is more due to the overall reputation of the institute rather than the excellence of the mechanical department itself), NIT Durgapur has far better faculty.

DeleteSorry if i am harsh,but i am absolutely sure that some real wrong message is being sent here.Bits pilani goa campus is way,way better than atleast 10 of the cllges given ahead of it.Looks like you surely are bugged and infested with a common perception of it being bits "GOA"...you badly need to do more research about it or just remove it from the list because you are insulting such a college.Recent placement avg is 7.7 lacs per annum and hundreds of jee and aieee high rankers are persuing dual degrees here!!This years' CAT topper was from BITS goa.AFA the College life is concerned,it is absolutely amazing.

Which is better Vnit Nagpur cse or nit hamirpur cse???i am getting both. Although Vnit Nagpur recruiting students from top ranks still not performing well and on the other hand hamirpur cse goes upto 15 k and still placement is same as Vnit Nagpur. Reply soon i have to make a choice

I would advise u go 4 hamirpur if CSE is the only thing u r prepared to study..............however, if u r prepared to study other streams too, then keep in mind that in most of the NITs, core streams r usually better than CSE (although there r exceptions to this general trend)

ReplyDeleteLet me list out my reasons for saying IIIT-H does not deserve 4th rank in ECE:
ReplyDelete1) There is no 'C' (communications) part. Namesake its called E'C'E.
2) They repeat the previously done course in place of a advanced course which was supposed to be taught. (eg: antennas and waveguides supposed to be the most important course in ECE branch has not been provided. And reason is No Faculty)
3) Placements wise though the average is 7+ lac's. Its only because of the IT and finance jobs that students of ECE get here. And very few will be lucky to get into core jobs.
4) Faculty wise Institute is incapable of attracting faculty to fill up the holes when some faculty leaves to newly established Institutes like IIT-H or BITS-H.
5) Faculty recruitment is of very low grade.
All the above reasons make me regret for my decision of opting ECE over CSE at IIIT-H, though my AIR was 1452 in AIEEE.

ReplyDeleteI understand the perception of students over here that students prefer BITS pilani,goa,hyd in the order. But once you get into any of them you will get to know the facts. 1) for the PS2 program which BITS is meant for, CGPA of students of all the campuses are considered equally and allots the company. 2) question papers maintain the same standard. 3) faculty standards are same. i can say way many but these two are easy to understand. This is not the case that happens in the campuses that come under same university. unfortunately we never consider the top MS/PG admissions and only go through placements which even i did before getting into a Btech. BITS goa students have got admissions from world eminent universities like STANFORD, CARNEGIE MELLON, PENSYLVANIA, PURDUE etc and francly more than BITS pilani students. Mr. BIRLA's motto is to provide the same quality education for every campus. rather than pointing out negatives i hope we can see at the brighter picture. But surely i agree that there is difference in placements since persons recruiting have same kinda prejudice. but things are changing. recently a test conducted by NVIDIA selected 15 students pan india and 7 out of 'em are from goa and few other from pilani. They prefered to come GOA this time first.
I dont care about the people who formulated this ranking...but I do about those who are going to follow this vague ranking which has come out from the individuals who certainly do not know most of the institutes they have mentioned other than their names and some random info from the internet.Guys if you wanna know the rankings go for the reliable sources and not the ones by some amateur guys who dont have anything better to do.Here is the link and check out urself:

BITS Pilani Goa also comes under BITS Pilani campus, they are collectively a university.All other rankings have given a combined rank( like outlook, who placed BITS Pilani collectively at 6th position). A student graduating from BITS Pilani Pilani campus, or Goa campus, doesn't make a difference, everyone graduate under the name of BITS Pilani. BITS Pilani Goa is young campus, so companies may prefer Pilani campus.

Hey , JU (Jadavpur University) Chemical and CSE are very good departments. Do you know that ONGC,IOCL,UOP,Reliance Industries recruit from JU Chem?...there are so many JU Chem alumni in the chemical industry, only a chemical engineer working in a good company can tell you. Go through the faculty list of IIT KGP and other colleges, you will find JU Chem alumni there also. Same holds true for CSE, excellent placements with companies like Google, Amazon recruiting..Do your research before commenting.

I'm getting the following majors...
1.Bits Pilani Dual Degree (MSc+Btech)
2.IIIT Hyderabad Dual Degree in Electronics and communication.
3.Bit Mesra Computer Science
4.MNNIT Allahabad IT..
Actually I'm interested in Artificial Intelligence and Mechatronics Major..
Dream college- Carnegie Mellon University
Plz someone help soon, getting very late for admission and fees submission
The real problem goes like this..
1.If I take Bits Pilani Dual degree, they will assign a btech degree as per your CGPA after 1st year and I've heard that average CGPA around there is 7.5 and for CSE, you need above 8..
2.If I take IIIT Hyderabad- Many humours are spreading about it that the dual degree program there is not efficient, however I'm a little bit research oriented but will prefer a job after completing graduation, also they provide dual degree in the form of MS in ECE, is that mean I can't pursue an MS degree from foreign universities in Robotics or Mechatronics??
As per the location of IIIT Hyderabad, the IT Giants are established in the nearby areas, a good thing regarding internships.Plz help.
3. MNNIT Information Technology (IT), but since it includes a lot of software oriented skills (not a good knowledge of hardware parts which I will have to develop for Robotix), so will it be a good option to replace IT in MNNIT with other engineering degree like ECE or CSE, I've heard that the coders of MNNIT are very much equivalent to that of many IIT's and IIIT Hyd.
Will it be a good option to proceed for??
4.Lastly BIT Mesra Computer Science, I've got interest in it because of the following-
Saving one more year(Unlike BITS Pilani and IIIT Hyderabad), no risk of any pointer achievement in 1st year or anything like that and also directly getting CSE branch, but is it really that much deserving and good enough in front of the others which I mentioned above??
So finally on the basis of all these messy stuff I just want the final ranking for this..
BITS Pilani dual degree (MSc+Btech)
IIIT Hyderabad dual degree (ECE+MS by research)
MNNIT Info Tech..
BIT Mesra??
